Thailand has joined the United States and a growing coalition of allied nations in a major effort to expand missile and drone production capacity across Asia, marking a significant step in strengthening regional defense cooperation and industrial resilience.

The move comes under the Partnership for Indo-Pacific Industrial Resilience, a United States-led initiative designed to reinforce supply chains and enable allied countries to produce and maintain critical military systems closer to potential operational zones.

With Thailand and the United Kingdom formally added, the partnership now includes sixteen member nations spanning both the Indo-Pacific and Europe.

At the core of the initiative are plans to scale up production of key defense components and technologies.

Member nations have agreed to establish a new program for solid rocket motor production, with Japan taking a leading role, aiming to boost availability of propulsion systems used in advanced guided weapons.

The partnership is also advancing a coordinated effort to develop and manufacture small military drones across the region.

This includes creating shared standards for components such as batteries and motors, as well as building more integrated supply chains to support both commercial and defense applications.

In addition, discussions are underway to expand ammunition production capabilities, including the possibility of establishing new facilities in Southeast Asia to support the assembly and packaging of key munitions used by modern armed forces.

Thailand’s participation highlights its growing strategic importance and its proactive role in enhancing regional stability.

By joining the initiative, Bangkok is strengthening its position as a capable and reliable partner, contributing to a more distributed and resilient defense industrial base across Asia.
