Thailand's Digital Economy Minister Advocates for Infrastructure Upgrade
At the BITKUB Summit 2024, Thailand's digital economy minister Prasert Chantararuangthong emphasized upgrading digital infrastructure to enhance competitiveness and security and develop a skilled workforce. He was joined by Bitkub founder Topp Jirayut Srupsrisopa, who stressed the importance of digital transformation to help Thailand escape the middle-income trap.
Digital economy minister Prasert Chantararuangthong announced a commitment to upgrading Thailand's digital infrastructure at the BITKUB Summit 2024, held at Bangkok's Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.
The minister, who is also the deputy prime minister, outlined three key focus areas: creating new tools and infrastructure to boost Thai competitiveness, strengthening regulations for data security, and developing a skilled digital workforce.
He also highlighted ongoing initiatives like the cloud first policy and investments in data centers.
Topp Jirayut Srupsrisopa, founder of Bitkub, a cryptocurrency exchange, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need for rapid digital transformation in Thailand to avoid the middle-income trap, drawing parallels to China's and Vietnam's successful digital economies.
