US Man Receives Image in Place of Drill After Ordering from Chinese Site
A resident of Georgia orders a drill from AliExpress, but instead receives a photo of the item, leading to frustration and a surge of reactions on social media.
A 68-year-old man from Georgia, Sylvester Franklin, was left perplexed after he ordered a drill and a pressure washer from the Chinese online site AliExpress, only to receive a printed photo of the drill instead of the actual products.
Franklin placed the $40 order in November, thinking he had found a great deal.
However, when the package arrived in December, he was astonished to discover it contained only a photo of the drill and a screw.
Franklin reached out to the seller right away for a refund but reported a lack of meaningful communication or resolution.
The incident has garnered attention on social media, with many users sharing similar stories or ridiculing Franklin for trusting a questionable platform.
AliExpress, a subsidiary of Alibaba, frequently faces criticism for the dubious practices of some of its third-party sellers.
Despite having a substantial global customer base, the platform has encountered numerous complaints regarding defective products and scams.
The Better Business Bureau has awarded AliExpress a D-rating, noting 1,131 unresolved grievances.
Even with its extensive inventory, AliExpress remains controversial due to ongoing consumer complaints about product quality and delivery problems.
