Illegal Motorised Suitcase Riding in Thailand

Riding a motorised suitcase on public roads in Thailand is illegal, as clarified by the Traffic Police Division. A viral video of a woman on a motorised suitcase in Bangkok raised safety concerns. The woman has left the country, and the public is urged to report unsafe road usage to hotline 1197.
The Traffic Police Division of Thailand clarified on Friday that riding a motorised suitcase on public roads is illegal.

This statement follows a viral video showing a woman riding a motorised suitcase on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road near Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok.

The woman, casually using her mobile phone without wearing a helmet, sparked safety concerns and questions on social media about the lack of police intervention.

According to the Vehicles Act and Road Traffic Act of 1979, motorised suitcases are not classified as vehicles and cannot be legally used on public roads.

The woman, identified as a Chinese tourist, left Thailand on August 22.

The public is encouraged to report unsafe road usage to the traffic police hotline at 1197.
