Laem Chabang Port Upgrade Approved with 12.8 Billion Baht Investment
The Public-Private Partnership Committee has given the green light to improve Terminal B1 and B2, enhancing regional competitiveness and aligning with Thailand's economic development plan
The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Committee has approved the improvement project for Laem Chabang Port Terminals B1 and B2, with a combined investment value of 12.8 billion baht.
The project aims to enhance the competitiveness of the regional port by merging terminals B1 and B2 under the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT), extending the berth length to accommodate larger vessels more efficiently and flexibly.
The project will be implemented as a PPP net cost model, with the private sector responsible for infrastructure upgrades, equipment procurement, cargo handling technology, maintenance, rehabilitation, and overall project management.
The PAT will supervise the quality of operations and receive annual returns in accordance with agreed conditions.
This development aligns with the 13th National Economic and Social Development Plan, positioning Thailand as a regional trade and investment gateway and key logistics hub.
The project is expected to improve operational efficiency by optimizing terminal facilities and increasing container throughput capacity, supporting the government's policy to boost economic growth potential.
Additionally, the PPP Committee approved revisions to the 2020-27 PPP Investment Plan, updating it to reflect current project readiness.
The revised plan includes 139 projects with a combined value of 921 billion baht, to be executed under various PPP models, aiming to attract more private investment in state projects and expand social sector projects such as public health and water/wastewater management.
Terminal B1, operated by LCB Container Terminal 1 Co since November 1995, has a berth length of 300 meters, a depth of 14 meters from mean sea level, and can accommodate container vessels up to 50,000 DWT, handling up to 600,000 TEUs per year.
Terminal B2, operated by Evergreen Container Terminal (Thailand) Co since 1993, has similar specifications and capacity.
The project timeline is expected to be accelerated to ensure public services become accessible more quickly and conveniently.
