Paetongtarn Claims Thaksin Shinawatra's Trip to Malaysia Will Bring Advantages to ASEAN
Thaksin's discussion with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim addresses regional matters, such as Myanmar and cryptocurrencies, emphasizing collaboration within ASEAN.
Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's recent trip to Malaysia is anticipated to yield significant advantages for the ASEAN region, as stated by his daughter, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
During their meeting on Sunday, Thaksin and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim addressed crucial regional concerns, notably the persistent crisis in Myanmar and the repercussions of cryptocurrencies.
Paetongtarn highlighted that the dialogue between the two leaders would be advantageous for both Thailand and Malaysia, underscoring ASEAN's dedication to fostering peace in Myanmar, which remains a top priority for Malaysia as the current chair of ASEAN.
The discussions also explored wider regional challenges, including technological advancements to tackle air pollution and flooding.
Thaksin's visit was facilitated after the Thai Criminal Court permitted him to travel abroad from February 2 to 3, contingent on the payment of a 5-million-baht bond.
The court's decision received backing from Thailand’s foreign minister, who confirmed that Thaksin's journey would not disrupt his ongoing legal issues.
Additionally, the court has mandated that Thaksin report back to authorities within three days of his return to Thailand.
