ROCTEC Advances Thailand's ICT Landscape with Innovative Solutions

ROCTEC Advances Thailand's ICT Landscape with Innovative Solutions

The company leverages four decades of experience to enhance infrastructure and digital services across Southeast Asia.
ROCTEC Global Plc, initially established in Hong Kong, has positioned itself as a leading provider of transport ICT solutions throughout Asia, including Thailand.

With nearly 40 years of operational experience, the firm is recognized for its comprehensive suite of services such as consultancy, system integration, and maintenance, tailored to meet the intricate demands of both public and private sector clients.

The company’s evolution in the Thai market closely aligns with Master Ad Plc (MACO), a significant entity in Thailand’s out-of-home advertising sector.

Founded in 1988, MACO pioneered traditional advertising via billboards and street furniture.

However, acknowledging the transformative impact of digital technology, MACO strategically redirected its focus in 2018 through the acquisitions of Trans.Ad Solution Co (Thailand) and ROCTEC Technology Limited (Hong Kong), culminating in a rebranding to ROCTEC Global Plc to reflect its new digital strategy.

Under the guidance of chief executive Weng Sam Lam, ROCTEC has broadened its operations across Southeast Asia, establishing a presence in Macau, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand.

The company plays a vital role in substantial infrastructure initiatives, particularly those involving railway communication, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and digital display technologies.

INNOVATION AND INTEGRATION

ROCTEC distinguishes itself through its extensive experience, successful project execution, and an accomplished in-house R&D team.

The company has collaborated with notable clients including the Hong Kong MTR subway system, various government agencies, and utility providers.

Its capability to customize both hardware and software facilitates smooth integration and comprehensive project oversight, which minimizes risks and enhances functionality.

A significant development in ROCTEC's offerings is its adoption of predictive maintenance systems for railway networks.

The installation of IoT-enabled temperature sensors on train wheels and within carriages facilitates the early detection of overheating issues, empowering operators to rectify situations proactively, thereby bolstering safety and enhancing passenger experiences.

ROCTEC is also advancing its applications of artificial intelligence (AI).

For instance, AI-powered cameras in Hong Kong monitor carriage occupancy levels in real time, aiding effective passenger flow management.

Additionally, the firm is developing multilingual AI chatbots for customer service call centers, with current capabilities in English and Mandarin, and plans to include Thai in the near future.

CUSTOMER-FIRST PHILOSOPHY

Mr. Lam emphasizes that ROCTEC's dedication to customer service sets it apart in the marketplace.

"We work side by side with clients to ensure project completion, even in the face of challenges," he stated.

This customer-oriented strategy has fostered lasting partnerships, with numerous clients returning to expand their service requests post-implementation.

Venturing into markets such as Thailand, Hong Kong, and Vietnam presents challenges related to regulatory and cultural differences.

Nonetheless, the presence of a robust local team in Thailand has enabled ROCTEC to adapt its products and services to meet local specifications, enhancing client rapport.

Future expansion plans include ventures into Singapore, Malaysia, and Macau.

In Macau, ROCTEC intends to launch a fully automated post office that allows users to process parcels autonomously—a service already in operation in Hong Kong, with ongoing discussions with Thai partners regarding similar innovations.

FROM ADVERTISING TO ICT

ROCTEC's shift from advertising to ICT capitalized on the technological foundation that its Hong Kong headquarters had developed.

The transition was adeptly managed by the experienced leadership team, leveraging technical competencies to propel the company’s new trajectory.

The R&D division of ROCTEC comprises 35 developers specializing in both software and hardware, with the primary team stationed in Hong Kong and a supplementary team in Thailand to enhance software development efficiency.

As the demand for digital display and ICT solutions continues to escalate—particularly driven by rapid digital transformation—ROCTEC is positioning itself to cater to specific sectors such as railways and airports.

FUTURE VISION

ROCTEC's ambitions extend beyond mere revenue enhancement.

The company seeks to maintain its leadership status in transportation ICT through the cultivation of reliable partnerships, provision of impactful solutions, and implementation of advanced technologies.

Investments are being made in workforce and infrastructure to develop more cohesive products while exploring growth markets, particularly in Vietnam.
