The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) aims to generate 370 billion baht in revenue from domestic tourism in 55 secondary provinces through its '365 Days of Wonders: Amazing Places to Visit' campaign.
TAT governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool announced on Friday that the agency expects Thai tourists to make around 118 million trips to these lesser-known destinations in 2024, an 18% increase from the previous year.
In the first five months of 2024 alone, over 50 million domestic trips were made, generating 144.34 billion baht, a 17.98% increase year on year.
The TAT plans to continue promoting secondary provinces with help from influencers such as Achiraya 'Ally' Nitibhon and the PROXIE boy group.
Additional efforts include promoting rail and marine trips, offering discounts at participating hotels, airlines, and car-rental businesses, and encouraging tourism during the green season with tax deductions.
The TAT is also organizing events and festivals in these provinces to drive tourist traffic away from major destinations and distribute economic benefits more evenly.
