Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra introduced an ambitious technological roadmap aimed at transforming Thailand's digital economy during a high-profile investment forum on Friday evening.

The event, celebrating MFC's 50th Anniversary and held at the Centara Grand hotel in Bangkok, attracted the attention of government officials, business leaders, and political figures.

At the forum themed "THE WORLD'S NEXT OPPORTUNITIES AND BEYOND," Thaksin discussed significant initiatives intended to position Thailand as a regional leader in digital finance and technology.

He emphasized the commitment of the Pheu Thai Party to establish Thailand as a hub for blockchain and cryptocurrency, asserting that the necessary infrastructure and institutional capability are already in place.

Thaksin announced forthcoming plans for a stablecoin backed by government bonds, which is expected to be finalized in the next three months.

This stablecoin initiative is part of a broader project aimed at launching a comprehensive digital wallet system designed to facilitate transactions and enhance financial inclusion.

Thaksin expressed confidence that these developments would be evident by the end of the year.

Energy costs, particularly the high electricity rates in Thailand, were highlighted as significant barriers to attracting foreign investment in critical sectors, including data centers, artificial intelligence development, and cloud computing systems.

Thaksin called for drastic reductions in electricity costs to help Thailand become a competitive player in the global digital economy.

The initiatives outlined at the forum are seen as essential steps towards bolstering technological innovation and economic growth in Thailand, aligning with the global trend towards digitization.
