Bangkok Rights Fair 2025 Sees 20% Growth, Strengthens ASEAN Hub
Significant increase in business negotiations at the second edition of the Bangkok Rights Fair alongside major book fairs.
The Bangkok Rights Fair 2025, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, has reported a 20% growth in attendance and business negotiations, highlighting its emerging role as a pivotal hub for copyright trading in the ASEAN region.
This year's event runs concurrently with the 53rd National Book Fair and the 23rd Bangkok International Book Fair, attracting widespread participation from various countries.
Duangporn Sudhisomboon, Vice President of International Affairs at the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT), announced that the second edition of the book copyright trading event yielded business negotiations valued at 68 million baht, reflecting a 10% increase from the previous year.
She emphasized the continued popularity of novels, children's literature, and educational books, noting distinct regional preferences among different markets.
For instance, boys’ love, girls’ love, and LGBTQ-themed novels resonate with audiences across ASEAN nations, while Malaysia shows notable interest in children's books, and European markets demonstrate a preference for historical literature.
The event attracted a significant number of participants, with the largest delegations coming from China, Taiwan, and Japan.
Other notable participants included representatives from the Philippines, Malaysia, and various European countries.
The encouraging response has prompted PUBAT to plan international roadshows to promote Thai copyrighted works globally.
The association is actively promoting Thailand as a leading organizer of book fairs and is committed to showcasing Thai soft power in international settings, including events in Taiwan and South Korea.
Furthermore, PUBAT is preparing to participate in the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany, furthering its objective to elevate the international profile of Thai literature.
Theerapat Charoensuk, a member of PUBAT's executive committee, described the Bangkok Rights Fair 2025 as a success in light of recent challenges, including an earthquake that impacted the region.
He expressed optimism for Thailand's emerging role as the book hub of ASEAN, with aspirations for the country to become the primary book hub in Asia within five years and a global center for copyright trading within the next decade.
Charoensuk noted Thailand's openness as a strategic advantage for expanding the book industry and copyright activities into foreign markets, reinforcing Thailand's appeal as a global destination for travel and tourism.
