Bangkok University announced the expulsion of two students involved in an incident of violence against a peer, which occurred on February 6, 2025, in Pathum Thani province.

The university released a statement on its official Facebook page confirming the expulsion, citing that the attack violated both the law and the university’s regulations on student conduct.

The assault took place at a noodle shop in the Khlong Luang district, where the two students allegedly poured hot soup over the victim, resulting in burns to the neck, back, and arms.

Reports indicate that the assailants also attempted to extort money from the victim, demanding payment to cease further attacks.

In response to the incident, Khlong Luang police have charged the 19 and 22-year-old assailants with physical assault and extortion.

Authorities reported that the pair were already facing a total of five complaints from other victims prior to this incident.

Following their arrest, they were detained at the Khlong Luang police station for further questioning.

The attack has prompted significant backlash within the LGBTQ+ community, culminating in a rally on the evening of February 10. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered near Bangkok University in the Rangsit area to demand accountability and an apology from the perpetrators.

Activists and community members voiced their concerns over violence against LGBTQ+ individuals and called for greater protections and support for marginalized groups in Thailand.

The events have drawn attention to ongoing issues regarding LGBTQ+ rights and safety in Thailand, a nation known for its rich culture of diversity yet grappling with instances of discrimination and violence against sexual minorities.
