Chiang Rai Governor Faces Probe Over Absence During Flood Relief
Thailand’s Interior Ministry is investigating outgoing Chiang Rai governor, Puttipong Sirimart, for his repeated absences during flood relief efforts in the province. Announced by Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the probe started just before Puttipong's retirement. His absence during key flood inspections has been deemed negligence.
The Interior Ministry of Thailand is investigating outgoing Chiang Rai governor, Puttipong Sirimart, due to his repeated absences during flood relief efforts in the province.
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the investigation on Sunday, a day before Mr. Puttipong's retirement.
Mr. Puttipong was absent when Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and cabinet members visited to oversee flood operations.
Anutin described the governor's absence as negligence, stating retirement is no excuse for neglecting duties.
