Phairach Pornsomboonsiri Appointed New Attorney General
Phairach Pornsomboonsiri has been appointed as the new Attorney General, effective October 1. The Senate approved his appointment with 184 votes in favor and two against. Born in 1960, he graduated with honours in law from Chulalongkorn University and has been active in promoting rights protection and collaborating internationally.
Deputy Attorney General Phairach Pornsomboonsiri has been officially appointed as the new Attorney General, succeeding Amnat Jedcharoenruk, following a royal endorsement.
His appointment will take effect on October 1, as confirmed by a Royal Gazette announcement on Friday.
The Senate approved his appointment earlier this month with a vote of 184 in favour, two against, and nine abstentions.
Born on January 27, 1960, Mr Phairach graduated from Chulalongkorn University with First Class Honours in law in 1980, passed the Thai bar in 1982, and obtained a Master of Law from Tulane University in 1983.
Throughout his career, he has worked to promote rights protection, notably collaborating with the Foreign Ministry to provide legal advice to Thai embassies abroad.
Additionally, he served on the executive committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP), a global non-profit organization for prosecutors.
