China's Successful Trial of Driverless Heavy-Haul Train
China’s driverless heavy-haul train completed a successful trial run, traveling from HUANGHUA South Station to DONGYING WEST STATION in two and a half hours. The 1.3-kilometer long, 108-carriage train weighs 10,800 metric tons. The trial run bridges technological gaps, improves coal transportation efficiency, increases running speed by 1.7 kilometers per hour, and reduces traction energy consumption by 2.9 percent.
On Thursday, China's driverless heavy-haul train successfully completed a trial run.
The train departed from HUANGHUA South Station at 8:36 am and arrived punctually at DONGYING WEST STATION after two and a half hours.
Measuring 1.3 kilometers in length, the 108-carriage train has a gross weight of 10,800 metric tons.
This achievement bridges several domestic technological gaps by realizing both unmanned train driving and station management.
The implementation of driverless technology is projected to boost the average running speed of heavy-haul trains by 1.7 kilometers per hour and reduce traction energy consumption by 2.9 percent, thus enhancing the efficiency of China’s west-east coal transportation.
