Japanese and South Koreans Report Lowest Satisfaction in Global Love Life Survey
A global survey reveals Japan and South Korea at the bottom of the list for sex and romantic satisfaction, highlighting concerns over low birth rates
A recent global survey by French research firm Ipsos has revealed that Japanese and South Koreans are the least satisfied with their sex and romantic lives. The poll, conducted across 31 countries, shows just 37% of Japanese respondents are satisfied with their romantic and sexual relationships, the lowest of all surveyed nations. South Korea followed closely with only 45% reporting satisfaction.
This dissatisfaction is seen in the context of both countries grappling with demographic crises, marked by alarmingly low birth rates. Japan's birth rate hit a record low of 1.20 in 2023, while South Korea’s rate is the world’s lowest at 0.72. Experts warn that these trends are critical, with both nations struggling to reverse the decline. The Ipsos survey also revealed that only 51% of Japanese respondents feel loved, the lowest rate globally, while South Koreans and Italians both reported higher levels of contentment at 63%.
In response to these challenges, Japan has launched initiatives such as a government-backed dating app aimed at increasing marriage rates, requiring users to provide proof of being single and a commitment to marriage. Despite efforts to address these issues, the survey highlights ongoing dissatisfaction with love and relationships in these two countries.
