Wildlife officials in Pattaya inspected a residence on Soi Phra Tamnak 5 on Monday around three thirty in the afternoon after residents complained about late-night roaring from pet lions.

The property, owned by Sri Lankan businessman Divarun Vaikunda Nadar, was visited by officials led by Sadudee Punpugdee, director of the Wild Fauna and Flora Protection Division, along with teams from the Protected Area Regional Office Two in Sri Racha, tourist police, Chonburi immigration police, and Pattaya police.

Officials confirmed that the lions' microchips matched their registration details.

Following the inspection, Nadar has agreed to relocate the animals to a new property within one week, subject to an evaluation ensuring the site meets safety standards and is sufficiently distant from residential areas.

If the new location is found unsuitable, the lions will be transferred to a government facility at Protected Area Regional Office Two, where Nadar will be allowed visitation.

In addition, the Wildlife Conservation Bureau is tightening regulations on lion ownership and has halted the import of lions for breeding.

Officials cautioned that potential lion owners must have adequate space, ensure public safety, and consult with neighbors before acquiring such animals.
