Thailand and Iran Celebrate 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations
Commemorative Event Held in Ayutthaya Honors Sheikh Ahmad Qomi's Contributions
On November 23, the Iranian Embassy in Thailand organized a ceremony in Ayutthaya province to honor Sheikh Ahmad Qomi, a key historical figure in the cultural relations between Iran and Thailand.
This event was part of the celebrations marking 70 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Attendees included high-ranking officials from both countries, as well as academics, researchers, and cultural enthusiasts.
The Iranian ambassador to Thailand, Nasseredin Heidari, along with Iran's cultural attaché Mehdi Zare, laid wreaths at Sheikh Ahmad Qomi’s mausoleum, acknowledging his arrival in Siam over 420 years ago and his influence in establishing cultural and religious connections.
During the ceremony, the ambassador proposed a conference with the Thai Embassy in Tehran to further commemorate these bilateral relations.
Additionally, the event featured a documentary on Sheikh Ahmad's life and an exhibition showcasing Iranian crafts such as enamelwork, marquetry, and ceramics.
Sheikh Ahmad, originally from Qom, Iran, became a respected scholar and advisor in the royal court of Ayutthaya in the early 17th century, playing a significant role in fostering cultural exchange between Iran and Thailand.
