Thailand's Urban Development and Technological Advancements: A Comprehensive Overview
Notable projects in structural engineering and AI strategy propel Thailand towards a dynamic future.
In a significant development marking Thailand's urban landscape and technological advancement, pivotal projects are emerging that showcase engineering excellence and a strategic embrace of artificial intelligence (AI).
Engineering Confidence at One Bangkok
Located in the heart of Bangkok, One Bangkok is set to redefine safety standards in high-rise construction.
As a megaproject transforming the city’s skyline, it prioritizes structural strength and stability, a necessity in a city challenged by unique geological conditions.
Dr. Karoon Chandrangsu, a prominent civil engineer, outlines the challenges of constructing in Bangkok, notably due to "Bangkok Clay," which complicates foundation engineering.
One Bangkok employs an innovative foundation system, utilizing 2,600 oversized piles, each exceeding 1.8 meters in diameter, reaching depths of 80 meters down to a firmer sand layer.
This marks the first instance of a project in Thailand achieving such a depth, establishing new benchmarks for foundation engineering in the region.
The project's stability is enhanced by an expansive underground structure that surpasses 100,000 square meters, connecting all buildings within the development.
This base rests entirely on the deep foundation piles, ensuring minimized movement and enhanced structural integrity.
While Bangkok is not in a known seismic zone, One Bangkok is designed to comply with national earthquake resistance standards, utilizing a dual-response system that allows for dynamic adjustments in the event of ground motion, ensuring occupant safety.
Investment in Smart City Transformation at Muang Thong Thani
IMPACT Exhibition Management is investing 100 million baht to initiate the transformation of Muang Thong Thani into a fully integrated smart city.
This expansive site, covering 4,000 rai (approximately 1,581 acres), will prioritize improved transportation networks and heightened security measures over the next three years.
The initial phase will focus on the integration of transport systems, particularly the Pink Line extension of the electric railway, which will connect with two new stations: IMPACT Muang Thong Thani and Muang Thong Thani Lakeside.
This connectivity aims to streamline travel and enhance accessibility.
A substantial part of this investment will also fund the installation of 200 advanced CCTV cameras across the area.
The real-time data from these cameras will be utilized for traffic management and security enhancements, contributing to a safer urban environment.
Formation of National AI Committee
In a strategic move to enhance the nation's competitive edge, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is set to lead the newly established National AI Committee, which will convene for its inaugural meeting in early April.
This committee comprises representatives from various governmental and private sectors, including the Digital Economy and Society Ministry and the National Innovation Agency.
The initiative aims to advocate for AI adoption throughout the country and to bolster Thailand’s standing in the global tech arena.
Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong, who assumes the vice-chair position, emphasized the critical role of AI in shaping Thailand’s future.
The governmental approach focuses on integrating deep tech and developing a Thai-specific large language model to heighten operational efficiencies across sectors.
Allocating resources for science, research, and innovation, the government plans to support the integration of global AI models with domestic advancements, aspiring to see palpable AI applications in Thailand by 2025.
