Bangkok Implements New Regulations for Street Vendors

New City Hall rules in Bangkok state that only 'poor Thais' can be street vendors, requiring Thai nationality, welfare cards, and limited earnings. Migrant employment is banned, and vendors must adhere to strict guidelines on stall dimensions and pedestrian space.
Only 'poor Thais' are now permitted to operate as street vendors in Bangkok under new City Hall regulations.

These rules prohibit the employment of migrants and outline several other requirements.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt's notice will take effect upon publication in the Royal Gazette, as stated by Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, a spokesman for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

Vendors must be Thai nationals holding government welfare cards, paying for National Housing Authority houses, and receiving allowances from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.

Their annual income post-deductions should not exceed three hundred thousand baht, and they must be part of the Revenue Department’s taxation system.

Each vendor can have one Thai assistant and needs public health approval.

Pedestrian space of 1.5-2 meters must be maintained on pavements, with stalls limited to three square meters and at least fifty centimeters away from the road.
