Thailand Advocates for Dialogue to Repair Vital Myanmar Highway

Thailand seeks to work with conflicting parties in Myanmar to fix a vital highway to improve regional stability and trade. Supported by Asean and India, Foreign Affairs Minister Maris Sangiampongsa suggests that Myanmar’s problems should be resolved through constructive dialogue instead of military action.
Thailand aims to collaborate with conflicting factions in Myanmar to repair a crucial highway, the Asian Highway 1 (AH-1), vital for regional stability and trade, Foreign Affairs Minister Maris Sangiampongsa announced on Thursday.

Supported by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and India, Thailand's efforts come as Myanmar has been unstable since February 2021, following a military coup that ousted its elected government and incited armed rebellion.

The Thai government believes that Myanmar's issues should be addressed through constructive dialogue rather than military means.
