Chiang Mai Tourism Sees Bright Prospects for December
High Occupancy Rates Expected Amid Festive Events and Attractions
Chiang Mai's tourism sector is optimistic about a strong performance in December, with hotels expecting occupancy rates of up to 90%, driven by increased flight availability, festive events, and popular attractions such as the golden tiger star 'Ava' at Chiang Mai Night Safari.
According to Punlop Saejew, acting president of the Tourism Council of Chiang Mai, the winter season draws domestic tourists seeking the cooler climate of the north.
'Ava' has gained significant social media attention, mirroring past tourism booms seen with attractions like Chiang Mai Zoo's pandas.
December will also feature a variety of events including a countdown celebration, flower festival, marathon, and concerts, further boosting tourism.
The Transport Ministry plans additional flights during the New Year holiday to keep airfares affordable, while the extended airport hours have already increased tourist arrivals, reaching over 35,800 daily during Loy Krathong.
Although the 'Travel North Half-Half' subsidy has limited impact, it highlights regional destinations.
Resolving the cross-border smog issue remains crucial, especially during the high season.
Despite safety concerns over methanol contamination incidents in Laos, Chiang Mai's nightlife industry is enhancing craft and exclusive offerings to attract high-spending visitors while adhering to stricter licensing regulations for venues and alcoholic beverages to ensure tourist safety.
