South Korean Man Arrested for Detaining Ex-Girlfriend in Pattaya
Dongwug Kim faces charges after allegedly threatening former partner with a firearm.
A 27-year-old South Korean man, identified as Dongwug Kim, was arrested in Pattaya, Thailand, for allegedly detaining and threatening his former girlfriend with a gun.
The incident unfolded on Monday evening, when Pattaya police received reports of a foreign man threatening a Thai woman with a firearm and illegally holding her inside a nail salon located on Pattaya Klang Road.
Police were alerted around 7 p.m., and upon their arrival, they learned that Kim had threatened the woman, a 28-year-old nail salon owner, and confined her to a room.
As authorities surrounded the building, Kim reportedly fled from a second-floor balcony and ran from the scene.
Officers advised nearby individuals to seek shelter, as the suspect was believed to be armed.
Law enforcement entered the nail salon and successfully rescued the woman, who was found displaying signs of distress, including visible bruises and exhaustion.
Following her rescue, she disclosed to the police that Kim had confiscated her mobile phone and held her captive for nearly 24 hours.
During the ordeal, she stated that he had recently obtained a gun and had used it to coerce her.
Shortly after her release, the woman managed to send an emergency message to a friend around 3 p.m. on Monday, seeking help.
Later that evening, after calming Kim, she got her phone back and sent the message requesting police assistance.
Police apprehended Kim approximately 500 meters from the nail salon at around 11 p.m. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered a Sig Sauer handgun, loaded with 15 bullets, for which he did not possess a legal permit.
Investigators noted that the motivations for Kim's actions appeared to stem from jealousy regarding the woman's new relationship with a Chinese man, as previous attempts by Kim to reconcile were unsuccessful.
Following his arrest, Kim was taken into police custody for further questioning.
Authorities are also seeking to identify and charge the registered owner of the firearm.
