Thailand and France Collaborate to Enhance Defence Industries
Thailand and France are working together to boost their defence industries. A seminar held in Thailand's Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence highlighted plans for a 200 billion baht investment in military equipment. The collaboration follows agreements made earlier this year, focusing on armoured vehicles, warships, UAVs, and firearms, targeting markets in ASEAN, the Middle East, and Africa.
Jean-Claude Poimbœuf, France's ambassador to Thailand, and Defence Minister Sutin Klungsang inaugurated the 'Thailand-France Seminar on Defence Industry 2024' at the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence.
The event, following an agreement signed between Thailand's Defence Industry and Energy Centre and France's defence procurement agency (DGA) in May, aimed to foster investment and networking in defence.
The Thai government plans to procure defence products worth 200 billion baht over the next 20 years, focusing on armoured vehicles, warships, UAVs, and firearms, seeking markets in ASEAN, the Middle East, and Africa.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s meeting with the French president in May and Mr Sutin’s visit to the Eurosatory 2024 exhibition in June underscored this growing cooperation.
