Thailand Aims to Reclaim Top Tourist Destination Status
The Tourism and Sports Ministry and the Tourism Authority of Thailand are working to restore Thailand's status as a global tourist hotspot. With increased flights and strategic campaigns, they aim for 36.7 million foreign visitors and 3 trillion baht in revenue by year's end. Despite challenges such as the baht's strength and geopolitical uncertainties, initiatives remain focused on enhancing Thailand's tourism appeal.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) are implementing plans to reestablish Thailand as a world-renowned tourist destination.
Meeting at the Dusit Thani Bangkok, authorities highlighted the increasing number of flights to boost tourist numbers in the high season.
With Suvarnabhumi Airport currently handling 200,000 daily passengers, the aim is to reach 36.7 million foreign visitors and generate 3 trillion baht in revenue this year.
From January to September, Thailand saw 26.08 million international arrivals, a 30% increase year-on-year, generating revenue of 1.21 trillion baht.
The top visitor countries include China, Malaysia, and India.
The TAT targets a full recovery of flight capacity to pre-pandemic levels by next year, with a focus on captivating international events and man-made attractions.
However, challenges like funding for attractions, the Middle East conflict, and a strong baht persist.
Initiatives such as a winter festival seek to draw more tourists in the year's remaining months.
