Thailand Prepares for Influx of Chinese Tourists During Golden Week
Thailand is preparing for a significant influx of Chinese tourists during the Golden Week holiday, anticipating up to 183,000 visitors. This represents an 88 percent recovery from 2019 and is expected to generate five point one billion Thai Baht in revenue. The Tourism Authority of Thailand attributes this boost to improved flight capacity, visa exemptions, and strategic promotional campaigns aimed at the Chinese market.
Thailand anticipates a surge of up to 183,000 Chinese tourists during this year's Golden Week holiday, between October 1 and 7, marking an 88% recovery from 2019 levels.
This influx is projected to generate revenue of approximately 5.1 billion THB (one hundred fifty million US dollars), as reported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool highlighted a 30% growth in daily Chinese arrivals compared to earlier in the year.
Currently, the Chinese outbound tourism market has recuperated to 85% of its 2019 volume, alongside a 70% increase in flight capacity between Thailand and China year-on-year.
ForwardKeys, a travel data firm, cited a 250% year-on-year rise in flight bookings from China to Thailand for the holiday.
In the festive week, TAT estimates around 132,000 to 183,000 Chinese tourists, generating 3.7 to 5.1 billion THB in revenue, up from last year's 2.3 billion THB.
There are 1,097 direct flights and 197,757 seats available, connecting 43 Chinese cities with six Thai airports.
The surge is supported by a visa exemption policy and several marketing initiatives launched by TAT, such as campaigns with online travel platforms and special promotions for Chinese passport holders.
