Thailand Prepares for EU's New Environmental Regulations
The Tourism Authority of Thailand held a seminar to address the upcoming EU environmental regulations, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, which require businesses to adopt sustainability measures by 2026. Thai operators must adapt to these regulations to partner with EU tourism companies, and sustainability certification offers a market advantage. Speakers emphasized the importance of addressing environmental and cultural issues for the tourism industry's survival.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in partnership with the private sector, organized a seminar titled 'Action Alert! Accelerating Towards Sustainable Tourism in Thailand' to prepare for the upcoming European Union environmental regulations.
The seminar addressed the challenges of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), which mandate businesses to implement sustainability management measures by 2026.
Teerasil Tapen, TAT's deputy governor, highlighted that Thai businesses must demonstrate credible sustainability practices to partner with EU and North American tourism companies.
Juthamas Wisansingh, of Roaming Elephants, and Kaewta Muangkasem, of Green Destinations, stressed the necessity of adapting to these changes for business survival and understanding environmental and cultural issues.
Additionally, Anupong Kriangkrailipikorn, managing director of Search Engine Optimization Co Ltd, expressed that sustainability certification provides a competitive advantage in meeting modern travelers' demands.
