BEM Expands Electric Train Network, Targets Purple Line South
Bangkok Expressway and Metro PCL has secured a 30-year concession to manage the MRT Orange Line, extending its service network by 35.9 kilometers. This addition brings their total to 106.9 km, while BTS Group Holdings operates 138 kilometers. MRTA is considering private investment for the 23.63-kilometer southern section of the Purple Line.
Bangkok Expressway and Metro PCL (BEM) has secured a 30-year concession to manage the MRT Orange Line project, extending from Bang Khun Non to Min Buri (Suwinthawong).
This 35.9-kilometer addition brings BEM’s total service network to 106.9 kilometers, which includes the 48km Blue Line and 23km Purple Line.
In comparison, BTS Group Holdings PCL operates 138km of electric railways.
The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) is exploring private investment opportunities for the 23.63km southern section of the Purple Line from Tao Poon to Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road).
The decision on whether BEM will manage this expansion or if a new bidding process will take place is pending.
