Thai Army Commends Chabad Bangkok’s Humanitarian Response to Southern Flood Crisis

Military honours Jewish community’s relief efforts after devastating monsoon floods in southern Thailand
The Royal Thai Army has publicly recognised the humanitarian contributions of Chabad of Bangkok in the ongoing response to severe flooding in southern Thailand, underscoring robust cooperation between civil society groups and national institutions.

Senior army officials invited Chabad representatives to an official ceremony at the Thai Army headquarters to acknowledge their support for residents affected by one of the region’s most destructive monsoon seasons in recent years.

The acknowledgment followed extensive relief activity coordinated by Rabbi Nechemia Wilhelm of Chabad House in Bangkok, who mobilised support from Israeli travellers and donors to gather essential supplies including large quantities of rice, medicines and other necessities.

These donations were delivered to flood victims in hard-hit areas such as Songkhla province through coordination with the Thai military, which facilitated distribution and logistics.

Southern Thailand has grappled with flooding that has affected hundreds of thousands of residents, particularly in urban centres such as Hat Yai, where relentless monsoon rains inundated homes, infrastructure and agricultural land.

Thai authorities declared emergency measures and evacuation orders for residents in the worst-affected zones to safeguard lives and limit the impact of the disaster.

At the recognition event, the Thai Chief of Staff expressed gratitude for the aid delivered by Chabad, noting the positive impact of international solidarity and the importance of cooperative disaster relief efforts.

Rabbi Wilhelm reiterated Chabad’s commitment to assisting local communities in times of need, citing previous support during other crises, and emphasised the value of partnerships between humanitarian organisations and government forces.

The ceremony highlighted the broader role of community-led relief operations working alongside Thailand’s armed forces and civil agencies, reflecting a collective resolve to support those affected by extreme weather events and enhance resilience in vulnerable regions.
