Thailand Aims for 3.5 Trillion Baht in Tourism Revenue in 2025
Thailand sets ambitious tourism revenue target of 3.5 trillion baht in 2025, with a focus on international markets and extensive events. Industry leaders express skepticism over achieving the goal.
Thailand's government is targeting a tourism revenue of 3.5 trillion baht for 2025, driven primarily by foreign tourists.
The goal, announced during the launch of the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025, comes with a range of promotional events and activities aimed at attracting 39 million visitors.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to run promotions under five key concepts, including art and cultural festivals, must-visit routes, special tourist deals, and high-profile international invitations.
Despite the ambitious target, industry leaders have expressed doubts about reaching the 3.5 trillion baht mark, citing ongoing challenges such as slower Chinese visitor returns and concerns over economic conditions in China.
Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong, however, remains confident, aiming to surpass Thailand's 2019 tourism revenue and visitor levels.
The government is focusing on improving transport connectivity and facilitating inbound flights to boost arrivals.
Thailand’s tourism promotions will feature several significant events, such as the “Maha Songkran: Saneh Thai Carnival” in April and the “Amazing Thailand Love Wins Festival” in June to celebrate the legalisation of same-sex marriage.
While tourism operators acknowledge the government’s efforts, they stress that reaching the 3.5 trillion baht target will require overcoming several economic and safety concerns.
