The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Thailand has confirmed that Asean member countries support Thailand's approach to handling the situation in Myanmar.
Vice Minister Russ Jalichandra stated that Thailand's actions, including hosting an informal Asean meeting on Myanmar in December, are not seen as interference.
On October 2, the MFA expressed concerns to the Thai parliament about a proposal to address Myanmar at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, cautioning against actions that could imply taking sides.
Despite initial concerns, Thailand's stance was accepted by a parliamentary majority, ensuring careful diplomatic handling underlined by consultation with Asean members.
Kannavee Suebsang, FAIR Party list-MP, reported on the ongoing IPU meeting in Geneva from October 13 to 18, where discussions include the humanitarian crises in Sudan and Congo, and an emergency agenda proposed by Ukraine to address peace in Myanmar.
