Kazakhstan and Thailand Elevate Economic Partnership with Expanded Cooperation in Trade, Digital Innovation and Connectivity
Diplomats and ministers from both nations underscore growing commerce, strategic agreements and shared goals as bilateral ties deepen
Kazakhstan and Thailand have taken significant strides to broaden their economic partnership, with senior officials underscoring mutual interest in expanding trade, investment and digital cooperation against the backdrop of long-standing diplomatic relations.
In a high-level meeting in Bangkok, Kazakhstan’s ambassador reaffirmed that Thailand is one of Kazakhstan’s key partners in Southeast Asia, noting that around seventy percent of Thailand’s trade with Central Asian states is conducted with Kazakhstan, highlighting the strategic importance of the relationship.
The discussions reflected steady positive momentum in bilateral relations, with both sides emphasising a commitment to strengthening political dialogue and growing economic links as they look towards deeper engagement in 2026 and beyond.
In the course of talks, officials outlined key areas of cooperation including digital trade, financial technology, cybersecurity, smart logistics and other components of the digital economy, building on a Kazakhstan-Thailand memorandum on digital cooperation that lays a foundation for practical collaboration.
Kazakhstan’s designation of the current year as the “Year of Digitalization,” along with domestic initiatives such as its Digital Code and the international IT Astana Hub, was highlighted as providing an enabling framework for both countries’ digital trade ambitions.
Representatives at the meeting also discussed prospects to advance agreements on investment protection, avoidance of double taxation, and cooperation in agriculture, transport and tourism, reflecting a broad approach to economic engagement.
The two governments noted recent growth in bilateral trade, with figures for the first eleven months of last year showing a rise in trade turnover that reflects resilient commercial activity.
Thai officials reiterated their interest in strengthening comprehensive trade and economic ties, and expressed support for mechanisms such as the Thailand-Kazakhstan Joint Trade Committee and a proposed Thai trade representative office in Astana or Almaty to facilitate business cooperation.
Officials also emphasised the importance of logistics and transit links, recognising Kazakhstan’s role as a transport hub with direct flight connections that are expected to further bolster tourism and people-to-people ties.
Both sides affirmed their readiness to continue substantive dialogue on critical materials, rare earth resources and other strategic sectors of mutual interest, and expressed confidence that the progressive development of cooperation would elevate economic relations to a new qualitative level.
