A tourism campaign led by the art toy mascot Labubu could help Thailand attract 8 million Chinese visitors and lure art toy lovers globally.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is also introducing the home-grown mascot Butter Bear as the next tourism presenter.
TAT governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool announced that Labubu, a creation of Pop Mart, would be promoting Thai tourism from July 1-4 by filming at notable Bangkok attractions.
Chinese online travel agent Qunar.com will sell at least 20,000 tour packages to Bangkok, Pattaya, and Chon Buri.
A new Pop Mart store featuring Labubu will open at Mega Bangna mall on July 5, with plans for six more stores and 20 vending machines in Thailand by year-end.
To address weak outbound travel sentiment from China, the TAT will launch campaigns including 'Nihao Months' in September and October.
Butter Bear, another popular mascot, garnered over 3.9 million likes and nearly 300,000 TikTok followers.
The collaboration marks Labubu’s first overseas tour outside China.
