Thai Oil Clarifies Labour Protest Impact on Clean Fuel Project
A protest on October eighteenth at the Thai Oil refinery in Sriracha has delayed the Clean Fuel Project indefinitely. Major contractors Samsung E&A, Petrofac, and Saipem are experiencing liquidity issues, affecting payments to subcontractors. Thai Oil, having completed its payments to the contractors, learned of these financial difficulties in April this year.
Following a protest by the Federation of TOP Refinery Contractors on October eighteenth at the Thai Oil refinery in Sriracha, Chonburi, the Clean Fuel Project's start has been indefinitely postponed.
The main contractors, including a joint venture of Samsung E&A (Thailand), Petrofac South East Asia, and Saipem Singapore, face liquidity issues hindering their ability to pay subcontractors.
Thai Oil, which initiated the Clean Fuel Project in 2014, selected these contractors through a transparent process and signed an EPC contract in 2018.
Despite Thai Oil having completed its payments, they were informed in April of the contractors' financial struggles affecting payments to subcontractors.
