Boys Love Fictions Takes Spotlight at National Book Fair
Boys Love (Yaoi) novels shine at Thailand's National Book Fair, seeing an impressive collaboration with 14 countries for copyright trading for the first time.
The fair boasts 914 book stalls and unveils over 3,000 new titles, celebrating the resurgence of interest in physical books, with more than 80% of readers preferring hard copies.
Suwich Rungwattanapaiboon, head of the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT), highlights that novels, especially translations, are this year’s top sellers, owning 40% of the market, with Boys Love stories making up 20%.
A standout feature is the participation of leading international publishers from 11 firms across 9 countries. This event also introduces the "Bangkok Rights Fair," aimed at promoting copyright exchange between Thai and international publishers.
The fair expects participation from 32 foreign and 53 Thai entities spanning 14 countries, including China, Japan, Korea, and the UK, with projected copyright trading worth over 10 million US dollars (about 350 million Thai Baht).
Running until April 8 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, the event anticipates over 1.5 million attendees and more than 400 million baht in transactions during the National and International Book Weeks.
